This community, located in the southwest corner of the territory, was put on the map in the 1980s when the Liard Highway was opened. Known affectionately as the 'tropics of the Northwest Territories', lush growth covers the land caused by the mild climate. Local activities include bird watching, fishing for pickerel, and boat launching. Recently, natural gas development in the region has brought change and opportunity to the community.
